Edition 13: August 24, 2001

In the thirteenth issue of the Bed and Breakfast Traveller, we visit North Bay. Imagine pristine lakes, canoeing in Algonquin Park, fine dining, sandy beaches all within three hours of Toronto. This is Blue Sky Region- North Bay & area, Ontario.

Algonquin North Outfitters will take you on a full day canoe trip with shore lunch, and thrill you with white or smooth water-canoeing down the scenic, historical Mattawa River. Dipping a paddle into one of Algonquin Park's pristine lakes, or fish along a quiet riverbank: North Bay's idea of aquatic therapy.

Jack Pine Hill in the heart of North Bay offers high-quality recreational activities, including mountain biking. Equipment rental with instructional packages is available.

Stoneoaks Stables, located on picturesque Lake Nosbonsing, offers year round riding in their indoor arena, as well as trail rides on scenic wilderness trails, and overnight packages at a wilderness cabin.

Great golfing at Highview, Osprey Links and Clear Springs.

The "Country Roads Tour" includes antiques, potters, artists, watercolours, soap making, and more. Enjoy the scenery and be inspired by the artisans, whose work will be on display in the area until Thanksgiving weekend.

Ride the Chief Commanda and cruise beautiful Lake Nipissing and the French River and become immersed in the rich history of the area. Delight in a world famous Northern Ontario sunset.

Visit the Dionne Quints Museum, a five star attraction, and get a glimpse of history and the unique story of these world famous 1934 births.

Enjoy fine dining at Lakefront restaurants, especially Zorba's Greek Restaurant with its friendly warm welcome.

Don't miss the chance for the scenic view of a lifetime: catch the Timber Train, a one-day rail trip across the Ontario-Quebec border through the Ottawa River Valley and the Laurentian Foothills. The trip, which takes about 7 1/2 hours, includes a 2.5 hour tour stop in Temiscaming, where you can stroll about and take in the local culture.
