Beautifully maintained, this Century old B&B is a splendid example of classic Nova Scotia architecture. Via the natural stone pathway, you enter an elegant vestibule leading into the main hallway. The original hardwood floors set off the grand staircase. Classic mouldings around the doors and windows are complemented by deep baseboards. This 1906 sea-captain’s period home has also been respectfully upgraded with modern comforts including geothermal heating to provide extremely economical power and heating/cooling bills.

The main floor guest lounge, south-facing with a lovely view of Lunenburg Bay’s ocean access, comprises a large room spanning the front of the house. Thus every boat, large or small, incoming or outgoing, has to pass by these windows, including the iconic Bluenose II.

The second-floor guest facilities consist of three gorgeous bedrooms each with its own ensuite or private bathroom. All also enjoy a view of the bay. Additionally there is a guest kitchenette where visitors may make and eat light lunches or snacks. These rooms all have hardwood flooring.

In the totally separate owner’s quarters, there are five rooms on the ground-floor plus a second stairway access to the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. This personal retreat can be configured in many different ways. The present owners have a living room, study and art studio, along with the large country-style kitchen with all the modern conveniences and appliances. A further room could also be used as an additional guest bedroom or to support a home-business. There are additional storage rooms on both levels.

A large extension at the rear, built in the early 1980s, blends beautifully with the old and provides perhaps the best B&B owner accommodation in town, spacious and private. Lunenburg is THE prime focus on the South Shore, famed for its architecture and colourful buildings and the home of the schooner Bluenose. It is also an easy walk with waterfront views to the town centre with its shops and plentiful restaurants.
