As a B&B owner, what is the B&B for Vets promotion and how can I be listed?
We encourage you to participate in this wonderful tribute to our Canadian veterans and military personnel. This program started in West Virginia in 2008, and spread into Canada thereafter through our members Carol ad Harry Gerstheimer from Tucked Inn the Harbour B & B in Ontario. We are now building on this presence to encourage owners from across Canada to join in. We are teaming up with Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals (AIHP) again this year.
To participate, you will offer a free night's accommodation on the evening of November 10th or 11th to a veteran or current active military personnel and their guest to thank them for their dedicated service to our country. We are also accepting year round discounted nights if this fits your budget better.
If you would like to extend this offer or consider additional dates, that is completely your choice. Some past participants have offered discounted stays in addition to the free night's accommodation. You may offer one complimentary room or as many as you like.
We will be promoting our participants with a BBCanada.com webpage dedicated to the program: www.bbcanada.com/bbforvets
We strongly suggest that you request military identification in order to verify the status of your visitors.
The offer is valid based on availability for any visitors who has at least one of the following forms of identification plus, if needed, one additional piece of photo identification:
- Any Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Benefit Card (photo)
- DND ID card for National Defence (NDI 20)
- Record of Service Card (NDI 75)
- Discharge Certificate from any branch of the Canadian Military
- Statement of Service from any branch of the Canadian Military
- Certificate of Service (CF 54 or CF 75) from any branch of the Canadian Military.
- Valid DND Temporary ID card (NDI 10)
- CF Appreciation Program membership card with photo ID
Since this promotion is in partnership with the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals (AIHP)- B&Bs for Vets, here are some of the pieces of identification for the US.
- Active and Retired Military will have Military cards that can be checked for validity; vets won't have those and are harder to verify, but should have DD Form 214 as proof of military service.
- They can be asked for discharge papers, but those contain private information.
It's recommended that with all reservations a credit card be requested for confirmation of their stay and for incidentals. The recipients of the offer are requested to abide by all of your B & B policies as they will vary between properties. It is important that you discuss in advance with your guests upon reservation your arrival, cancellation and no show policies.
To activate your participation in this promotion, you may log into the BBDUG and you will see it highlighted in the top section. Click "GO" and processed to the next page to fill in your details. At the bottom of this section simply "Click to confirm your participation". This will activate your participation and a poppy logo will appear on your listing page and city listing. An especially dedicated page www.bbcanada.com/bbforvets will display all our participating members.
This promotion will be released to the press, emailed to the various organizations provided by the Ministry of Veteran Affairs and advertised in various publications. We will also have a link on the Better Way to Stay - B&B for Vets page. Through these various avenues, visitors will then be able to contact you directly.
In BBDUG you will be able to indicate the number of rooms available for this promotion, change this number as they are booked and indicate full once all rooms have been reserved. You will also be able to insert a brief descriptive text about your promotion.
Thanks again for joining us to pay tribute to these brave servicemen and women who have served our country!
