Dear Joyce & Doug, Many thanks for your hospitality, many stories and advice on how to make the best of our trip to Canada. Also we really appreciate the books detailing the local history and tours. Thanks again & best wishes from Sally & Keith. 1st Sept. 2018.

Joyce & Doug, Thanks for opening up your home to us.I'm more of a hotel kind of guy, our stay with you was much more than what I was expecting. Maureen wanted to do B&B this trip and she was right, this is a great way to travel, even better than camping. Thanks again for the tasty breakfasts, the conversations, educational history of the area, and the local hidden gems in the area that you pointed out to us. I'll try to let you know how Maureen made out with the jam from the grapes from your yard. Your historical books will be treasured. This trip I can say that we learned & saw more of the area than ever before. God Bless & Best wishes, Maureen & John. Sept 13th '18

- Maureen & John Darrell, from Calgary, AB. 15 September 2018

Hi Joyce and Doug!

Thank you so much for having us girls at the end of September! The two of you really changed my mind as far as booking a hotel or B&B next time! It will be a B&B when possible. It was such a positive, pleasant experience! And your location is SO ideal for finding wineries and also SO beautiful - maybe we can plan on a week next summer! I've been telling everyone!

I also just wanted to let you know I sent a Trip Advisor review, but being a first timer to do a review, I didn't realize I was logged in under my daughter's Facebook account. So the review came up as Czarina Wisse.

And just for Doug, I have attached a photo that we have hanging in our restaurant, which he showed me he has in his archives! Too cool! The neat part about the picture is that the Coldstream Hotel used to be located across the street in what is now a parking lot. It's not obvious from my photo, but just beyond the windows is where the hotel used to be!

Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality! Hope your family Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyable!

All the best to you during the winter! Enjoy the fruits of your labour!! ;-)

Kind regards,

Tanya Wisse

Dear Joyce & Doug, I would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay in the cottage. I know we didn't do much in the way of outside activities other than walk. We both enjoyed seeing the different wildlife when we were out & about. Once again thank you for providing us with a very peaceful haven fir the past 12 days. It seemed such a short time before we had to leave, Regards & best wishes, Roberta.

- Sandra Roberta Smyth, from Northern Ireland, U.K. 3 August 2014

Dear Joyce & Doug, Thank you for your warm hospitality, the home-made jam was perfect with the bagels & cream cheese! We loved the view and the surroundings of the cottage, and your stories on this barn to lodge. We wish you all the best, Peter, Jasmijn, Iris and Marjolein.

- Peter Van Slingerland & Marjolein Gudde., from The Netherlands. 2 August 2014

We had a great time with very welcoming, helpful, and joyful guests Joyce and Doug. The rooms are comfortable, simple and clean, the house perfectly located, close to the best wineries ; ) and a private beach, and the breakfasts were delicious. We stayed two nights and recommend this place warmly.

- Nathalie Keiller, from Vancouver, Canada 20 July 2014

Lovely setting with views to die for. We were made very welcome and once we had relaxed on the terrace overlooking the vineyards and the lake, we had to fore ourselves to go out for a walk. Our delicious breakfast was served on the balcony where humming birds swooped to the sugar water feeder. Doug a local historian, entertained us with a wealth of knowledge and stories about the local area. We wished we could have stayed longer.

- Adrienne & Chris, from Newbury, England 30 July 2012

We had a lovely stay at the home of Joyce and Doug. The accommodations were comfortable, the outdoor setting gorgeous, the location to nearby walking trails, wineries and fine restaurants convenient, the morning breakfast scrumptious and the conversation lively and all-encompassing. Staying with Joyce and Doug was like staying with family. I would highly recommend this B&B for your next trip to Penticton, BC. Thank you, Doug and Joyce, for hosting us at your home.

Hosts are fantastic ! Treated us like family and took great care of us. Location couldn't be better - hot! nice views! wineries! bike trails (for any level)! The house is a little dated but very homey and comfortable. Great places to sit around the house to catch the sun any time of day, we ate all our meals outside, comforting Koi pond makes it really feel like a retreat!

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay with you both, and loved everything about your wonderful home. Our "picnic" on your patio will long be remembered, and amazing views were followed by a beautiful sunset, topped off with the appearance of a full moon! Hopefully we, or other members of our family, will pay you a visit again one day, Best regards, Joan & Phil, & David.

Thank you for your hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast in the sun with the million dollar view. What a lovely ending to our Kettle Valley bike trip.

- Anna & Stephanie Falz., from Caroline, Alberta, & Kimberley, B.C. 13 September 2010

I would definitely recommend this retreat for anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing get away from the mainstream city hustle & bustle. I spent the first evening winding down from a hectic Vancouver lifestyle by hanging out on the patio listening to the waterfall of the Koi fish pond. I was quickly ready to doze off while gazing over the vast valley and beautiful lake.

The next morning breakfast was served on the patio overlooking the luscious valley. What a beautiful way to wake up and start the day. Having planned the time off in a bit of a rush I hadn't come prepared to take advantage of the sight-seeing along the KVR. Never fear, Doug & Joyce to the rescue, with a mountain bike rental and suggestions to check out the old train tunnels a short ride up the road. Joyce offered to make dinner reservations for me at the Hillside Winery, this time just a short walk up the KVR in the other direction. What better way to top of the day than a tasty dinner with local wine.

It was with a tinge of regret I said goodbye to my gracious hosts who made for the most interesting conversations. Doug is a local historian and this coupled with their experience as former ostrich farmers, dog breeders and most recently as alpaca farmers and vineyard growers there is never a shortage of thoughts to share.

Thanks Doug & Joyce - may many a weary traveller find their way to your lovely abode.

- Julie Simonsen, from Vancouver 5 July 2009

We stayed in the Cottage and absolutley loved it. The cottage itself was spacious and spotless and stocked with the necessities and more! All weekend long we talked about building on just like it in Ontario. We would be hard pressed to find a better spot to have it though. The location is stunning, so close to some very nice vineyards (Elephant Island was our fave). Doug and Joyce were very kind, I would love to return!

- The Chisholms and the Winns, from St Andrew's W and Peterborough ON 21 June 2009

We first visited Riddle Road Retreat in 2007; this past weekend we returned with friends, and were not disappointed. The breakfasts were delicious and we felt to be very welcome in the Cox's home. We would highly recommend this B&B to folks who would enjoy to watch the sunset with the only distraction being the sound of crickets nearby.
