What a beautiful house in a pretty little town. Jim is a fantastic host, he made us a great breakfast. Rooms are lovely & clean. I would recommend this B&B! I will go back as soon as time permits.

Thank you Jim!

WE just stayed overnight at the Grey Gables this past week. It was very lovely, quiet and peaceful. We stayed in the attic The Loft room. Jim is a great host, and serves the most delicious breakfast, which is included. Just a few minutes walk to everything. Highly recommend staying here

Paul and I had a great time. The room was large and clean. Jim is a terrific host and breakfast was scrumptious. We enjoyed hearing about the history of Port Burwell

- Paul and Eva, from London, ON 4 August 2017

Friendly host (and good cook with delicious breakfasts cooked to order), clean comfortable rooms, easy walk to beach. We had a very relaxing stay and wished we had more time.

- Bruce McGregor/Janice Moy, from Chicago, IL 9 August 2016

We had a fabulous weekend stay at Grey Gables. Jim, our host could not have been more accommodating. A beautifully decorated home with numerous interesting antiques and very private, clean and comfortable room with ensuite bath exceeded our expectations. A very short walk to the quaintest shops and the glorious beach. A five-star breakfast greeted us each morning along with Jim’s warm, down to earth charm. Incredible wit and humour served with homemade delicacies. Many thanks, Jim! We look forward to returning to Port Burwell and Grey Gables again soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed the weekend of April 18th, 2015. We had a fantastic night - great room (the Teddy Bear room), it was spacious, had a comfortable bed, room temperature control (a fireplace and an a/c) and it was very clean! We enjoyed the nostalgia of the in room vcr and vhs tapes that were provided to watch :D And in the morning, Jim was a fantastic host, and a great cook. We had a full, delicious breakfast including homemade bread. Thanks so much for making our stay in your town a fantastic one, Jim! *****

We had a great time at Grey Gables. Jim, the owner, came out to greet us immediately upon parking and gave us a tour of the house. Our room (Poster Room) was very spacious and clean with a very large bathroom and cozy claw-foot bath tub for a well deserved soak after a 4 hour motorcycle ride. We slept well and enjoyed a very hearty breakfast the next morning with some of the other guests. Jim was always available if needed but also left you all the space you wanted if looking for some quite alone time. Very nice stay and I recommend it to anyone looking to visit Port Burwell. BTW, perch dinner at the Lighthouse was great (new owner, very enthusiastic and looks after his customers).

I Love this Hotel. Twice I have visited (8 years apart) and I can honestly say the hospitality, service and Owner are all brilliant.

Worth traveling here PURELY for the amazing breakfasts served - Biggest, best and freshest hotel breakfast I have ever had.

I'll be back Next Summer.

This was an incredible stay every room was so clean and refreshing it was so comfortable it was just like home. Jim was a fantastic host and we shared refreshments and stories on the porch at night. It was like spending the night at a friends house. Thanks a bunch!

I stayed here with my boyfriend and a friend one night when visiting Port Burwell for a friend's wedding. Such great hospitality & great breakfast, it was truly an incredible stay! We felt very safe and welcome. I recommend this bed and breakfast to everyone and will definitely be back.

I would like to recommend Grey Gables B&B for anyone looking for a place to stay in Port Burwell. James, also known as Jim to all around, is a wonderful host. Flexible to let you come a couple of hrs early, if he has the room available. offers you a CLEAN room, freshly laundered linen, and an excellent sumptious, spread for breakfast. An added benefit of the house, is all the antique furniture and his collection of artifacts that makes it truly a stay to remember.

- Clifford & Andrea Rodricks, from Cambridge, ON 10 August 2013

Well have now stayed two times at this great B&B. Can't say anything negative about this joint!! Hope to make it back again this year. Jim you do a particularily good job in making your quests feel welcome. Thank you so much and have a great summer.

- John and Pam, 8 July 2013

What a Gem! This is a very charming B&B with equally charming hosts. I enjoyed my stay here... slept peacefully, relaxed on the front veranda, and loved the fresh home-made breakfast treats. This is one of the nicest B&Bs I have stayed in and I hope I can come again soon. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

- Nick Black, from Guelph 5 September 2011

My girlfriend and I stayed at Grey Gables this past weekend for "Gordstock II" on Saturday in Port Burwell. It was our first stay at a B&B and after this very enjoyable stay, likely not our last... especially at the Grey Gables. We'll be back next year for "Gordstock III" and we be looking to stay here. It was very clean, very comfortable, very cool (A/C), very quaint. Its located right in the middle of Town... offers parking on-site... and is only a 3 minute walk to the beach. See you next year.

What a treasure of a place! Although friends, family and I have stayed in Port Stanley several times, it was a fluke that we ended up in Port Burwell this year. We were on our way to Peterborough, Ontario the next day for the Thanksgiving day events and found ourselves in the coziest little hamlet possible. We had our English cousin with us from Somerset, UK, and the three of us - B&B folks to the core - had a delightful time. Great accommodations and wonderful breakfast!

Spent a night here. Beautiful, comfy, quiet. Jim indeed is a wonderful host and breakfast was superb. It was a great spot to spend a night our way to visiting Long Point and then following the local food route for awesome farms, wineries etc. We recommend Grey Gables highly and hope to be back there some day.

- T & I, 7 September 2010

We stayed at the Grey Gables in October for two nights. It was wonderful, and we highly recommend it. The inn was quiet, comfortable, and charming. Host Jim is very friendly and provided a great breakfast. The park nearby is fabulous, and we spent a lovely day on the beach--nearly deserted in October, but the weather was sunny and warm. The Lighthouse Restaurant has good fish and we enjoyed some lunches and dinners there. All in all liked Port Burwell much more than nearby Port Stanley, which gets more attention.

My husband and & stayed at Gray Gables Oct 3/09 for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. What a wonderful experience we had. The bedroom was cozy warm and the bed was very very comfortable and having a full bathroom ensuite sure was a bonus. Would have liked more time to see all the great pieces of furniture, pictures and china that Jim has collect to put togeather Gray Gables but we were in Port Burwell for a family function so time did not allow for this,BUT next time. We had the most amazing breakfast with everything homemade including the bread and presented beautifully. Jim is a wonderful host and sits with you and chats during breakfast and we found him very interesting with lots of good stories and information to tell regarding Port Burwell. We definately would stay at Gray Gables again and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting a very clean relaxing atmosphere. Great Job Jim and we wish you all the success as you work to build on more rooms. Thank you for a great stay - Sharon Miller & Ron Brindley - Oshawa Ontario

A lucky internet find on the BBCanada web site led me to Grey Gables - a lovely old home, tastefully decorated, clean and very comfortable - in quiet Port Burwell. I spent 2 restful nights in the Gingko Room, and luxuriated in its jacuzzi tub; I felt like a new person after my relaxing stay. I had a good pickerel dinner at the Lighthouse Cafe, a short stroll for ice cream, and enjoyed a long walk on a peaceful sand beach at the nearby provincial park. All in all, a good find - I would recommend it for a pleasant, low-key and restorative weekend. Jim was a very accommodating host, and provided a hearty breakfast and great conversation.

- AL, from Guelph 25 August 2009

I haven't spent the night, but I did get to partake in a brunch. The Innkeeper prepared whole grain bread with the perfect texture, pleasantly moist and amazing flavour. I asked him what he made his bread with and he added a bit of molasses to give it the extra flavour. I enjoyed my lunch served on antique dinnerware in front of the fireplace. I live just 5 minutes from Port Burwell, but I will find an excuse to be an overnight guest at Grey Gables in the near future.

- Tracey, from Calton, Ontario, Canada 17 February 2009

We have stayed at this wonderful place in lovely Port Burwell many times. Jim Hevenor is the quintessential innkeeper (with a fine breadmachine and wonderful coffee). This BnB is one of the best anywhere. Highly recommended.

I have stayed at The Grey Gables, accomodations were perfect, loved the 18th century furniture, warm and friendly hospitality and loved the Lake Erie shores of Port Burwell.

- Marion Bolton, from Clermont, Fl 9 October 2008

I have not stayed at the Grey Gables as of yet, but look forward to it later this season.

I would just like to point out that the B&B is steps from the beautiful beach on Lake Erie. I have spent a few summers here at a cottage.

Alas, there are no whales, aside from the inflatable variety.

Looks great!
