Yvonne and Ed have a fabulous home that they open up to guests. They are perfect hosts and I cannot say enough about their lovely home and hospitality. It is welcoming, immaculate and has every amenity that one could possibly need. The breakfast that was served was delicious and the presentation better than you receive in a nice restaurant...I won't give your secret away Ed! :) Both Ed and Yvonne go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and they have a binder with any information that you require at hand. Yvonne did a wonderful job on the décor as well. It is a lovely place to visit and I wish that my husband and I had more time to spend there. Thank you for the wonderful experience and if we can come back again we would love to. In Gratitude Tracy and Arthur

The Spare Room in Osoyoos, BC is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Ed and Yvonne, our gracious hosts, have beautifully decorated their home with beautiful furnishings and prize possessions obtained from their worldwide journeys. Our wine-named bedroom had its own private terrace with a spectacular view of the mountains and a spacious, private bathroom. Delicious, plentiful breakfasts were elegantly presented with incredible attention paid to every detail. Ed and Yvonne shared wonderful, personal stories and provided maps & information on places to visit, wine & dine in the surrounding area. Thanks for such a memorable stay!

An alternative to the Burrowing Owl Guesthouse or Hester Creek is this exceptional B and B on the West Bench of Osoyoos. Beautifully and tastefully furnished with Ed and Yvonne's treasures from around the world, the suites are comfortable and elegant with everything you could possibly need. The lovely outdoor space with stunning views is surpassed only by the superb breakfasts and gracious hospitality of Ed and Yvonne. This is what a B and B should be.

Hello Ed & Yvonne!

Thank you so much for opening your beautiful home to my sister and I. The bed in the Pinot Gris Room was so comfortable, I actually slept 8 solid hours for the first time in months! The fresh fruit, eggs and mango, banana, orange smoothie for breakfast was 5 star delicious, I didn't want our stay to end! Ed & Yvonne you were beyond welcoming, engaging, knowledgeable and friendly hosts.

I almost didn't want to write a review so this place can be kept a secret gem but this kind of goodness needs to be shared.

Thank you again Ed & Yvonne, I really hope to see you both again!

- Shaunna Robinson - July 2015, from Port Moody 5 July 2015

Hi Ed and Yvonne,

Just a quick email to thank you for a most hospitable, luxurious and wonderful short stay at your beautiful home last week.

We were most appreciative of your wonderful welcome to us when we arrived late in the day after an exhausting drive to Osoyoos from Kaslo. The beer you offered us was like nectar and you so kindly let us use your computer to confirm our passage home which helped us enormously.

Driving through Osoyoos, George and I decided that we would most definitely love to return and explore your gorgeous part of Canada again but for a little longer next time.

Once again thank you so much for all your help and we send all our best wishes to you!!

to me

Good morning Ed and Yvonne: What a beautiful home you have and you are welcoming, gracious hosts. I attempted to send a review but had difficulty with both trip advisor and BB Canada. We loved the deck- having our very own sitting area was amazing! The presentation of the breakfast was beautiful and the smoothie was a unique touch! the souffle was delightful as was the fruit plate. It might be a good idea to add a thin memory foam to the bed and add some softer pillows? We spent several hours enjoying Osoyoos - spent an hour or two at that treed spit into the Lake you pointed out to me Yvonne. We sat on a log and soaked up the sun, read our books and fed a very tame duck bits of cherry and muffin. Spent our last night in Winthrop and thouroghly enjoyed our time there. Would have loved visiting with you more - maybe another time? Blessings, Esther & Len

Hi Yvonne & Ed,

I just wanted to say again to both of you how much we enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home.

Wished we had had more time to enjoy your company, relaxing on the deck and taking in the amazing view’s.

We most definitely will share our opinion of The Spare Room by submitting a review to “trip advisor”.

Ed & Yvonne provided incredible hospitality and service. A tastefully decorated B&B lends to a comfortable stay. Their attention to detail includes ironed sheets, an incredibly clean room and bathroom, wonderful breakfasts, and the comfort of the veranda left me feeling like I had a care free and relaxing holiday. It is just a walk to the golf course and a short drive to the down town and beach. I have been handing out their # to everyone I know. I know if I head back to Osoyoos next summer I will be staying there again. Thanks Ed & Yvonne!

“The Spare Room Bed and Breakfast”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 NEW

My Mum, friend and I have just spent a weekend at The Spare Room bed and Breakfast. After a long day of traveling, the wonderful hosts Yvonne and Ed warmly welcomed us into their home and kindly treated us to a glass of wine. This was much appreciated and was made only better by being able to share it on their Patio, with a wonderful view of Osoyoos and the lake. Both bedrooms and lounge area were immaculately clean and tastefully decorated and had patio doors leading onto the balcony with comfortable chairs to relax in. Both Ed and Yvonne were genuinely interested in making our stay a pleasant one with advice on places to visit and places to eat. Ed's breakfast were delightful and presented in style with silver service! Having to leave very early on the last morning to return to Calgary, we were unfortunately unable to take advantage of yet another wonderful breakfast, even though I think Ed and Yvonne would have obliged had we asked. Instead they very kindly provided us with a well equipped lunch box for the journey home. This expression of kindness was typical of their hospitality and genuine concern for making our stay the best experience possible. We highly recommend Ed and Yvonne's B and B and will definitely look to stay their again. Well done Ed and Yvonne! Ten out of Ten! Alison, Pearl, and Tim

Hi Yvonne, hi Ed *Marry Christmas and a happy new year 2013* from your guests in July 2012 from good old Germany Ute and Juergen Schwalm (the man who doesn't eat eggs, but he like Eds French toast). All we want to see in BC, we have seen, over Nelson, Ainsworth and Radium Hot Springs, Lake Louise, Whistler, Tofino and last Vancouver. We have seen the firework on 01. Aug. on Englisch Bay. It was a nice journey and when we see the fotos tomorrow with our mothers and sons again, we always remember you, your beautiful house and all the other Canadiens, we have meet. But your B&B was the best we have. Thankyou therefore again. We hope you are very well and make holidays somewhere in the world, perhaps in Europe. With kind regards Ute and Juergen

Ed and Yvonne

Michael and I just wanted to say thank you again for the lovely room and hospitality. We had challenging winds on the way home but have arrived home safely and thoroughly enjoyed going back through Washington.

I do hope that all settled out with your "missing guests" and everything turned out ok.

We look forward to seeing you again at some time in our travels, in the meantime; take care of yourselves.

Oh my we are so sorry about the room key I will put it in the mail tomorrow as we just arrived at home today. We were down the road and in our next accommodation before I found it in Bill's shirt pocket. We again want to thank you for a wonderful time at your B&B and have already written a testimonial about our time with you. Both Bill and I said that it was the highlight of our trip. Thank you again for being such gracious hosts. It really was a pleasure to meet you both. Many blessings to you both.

Dear Ed and Yvonne, From the moment we were warmly greeted at your door to the lovely visit on the open veranda overlooking the Oyosoos valley we felt at home and instantly relaxed. It is a rare gift in people who make you feel like you are family. We appreciated the care and also the lovely parisian style bedroom with the fresh linen. We rested well and enjoyed the fresh fruit smoothie and golden french toast topped with carmalized walnuts. What a wonderful way to start our day. We hope to see you again of course have already recommended your Spare Room B&B to others. Thank you Bill and Nicky

Hi Ed and Yvonne, Just to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at your B&B on August 9 to 10. Everything was great, and much more than we expected, Our room was lovely, and I could see all the love tenderness, and dedication to all the details that had gone into putting everything together. It was so nice to have the room lead out to a veranda on which we could sit to relax. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful, and so delicious, made even more so with your lovely antique dishes, crystal, silver, and beautiful lace table mats. Most of all it was so nice to be greeted with a glass of wine, and invited in to sit and talk so we could get to know each other. I do hope you will take us up on our invitation to meet next time you come to Vancouver. Sincerely, Erika and Javad

Dear Yvonne and Ed We arrived home yesterday after two wonderful days at your B&B. How nice it was to have "lucked" into your great home. You truly are two great hosts and the decor was right out of 'Home and Garden' magazine! Plus...such amazing food for our breakfasts. We hope to be back there again soon. Dear Yvonne & Ed for the the very warm and friendly hospitality. The entire family has a memorable souvenir of our staying. Thank you for your affection, Ciao, Renzo & Family

Ed and Yvonne were fantastic!! This is a beautiful B&B, with a gorgeous view of Osoyoos. The location is great if your not into the party scene, and hustle and bustle around town. It's a good place to come and unwind. Ed and Yvonne were very accommodating, and they fit us in last minute. It was clean, quiet, with a private entry, room to park, and a lovely terrace to enjoy a morning coffee on. The breakfasts that they made where amazing. We really enjoyed the company, the rooms are beautifully decorated, fantastic get away or honeymoon location as it was in our case. Everything to make you feel right at home! I would definitely recommend staying here!!

- Kristin Murphy, from Edmonton, Alberta 12 February 2012

Dear Yvonne and Ed: We really enjoyed our stay with you recently, and the wonderful breakfast. We hope to return again. Trust you had a great time with your "girlfriends", Yvonne - lots of wine tasting. We did a lot of wine tasting too, and brought back quite a few bottles!! Hi Yvonne & Ed, Thank you so much for allowing us to stay as guests in your beautiful home for a few days. You are great hosts and we loved your stories and morning conversations over your wonderful breakfasts. We arrived home safe and sound and are now relaxing with a glass of "See ya Later" wine and hopefully we will!

Hi Yvonne and Ed:

George and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit with you. Believe me, he won't be having the scrumptuous breakfasts at home that we dined on while staying at your residence. Enroute home, we visited with long time friends in Creston, BC. As at your place, the conversations were informative and entertaining. We've been telling friends about your hospitality and how 'high you've set the bar' for a B&B. Hope all is well with both of you. To date we haven't confirmed our winter plans. Maybe we'll see you in Osoyoos!

Ed and Yvonne,

Just wanted to say thanks for a nice stay with you. Hope that the other two couples finally arrived and you got that all worked out.

We had a good and safe trip on home. Now we are preparing for friends from Kansas to arrive for a weeks visit. They have never been to the Northwest so it will be fun to play tourist with them.

Thanks again.

Hi Ed & Yvonne, I just wanted to write and let you know what a wonderful time we had at your house this weekend. You two are such lovely people and Kris and I talked about you several times during our drive back, commenting how lucky we were to meet you both. Your house is beautiful, the company was fabulous and that breakfast was so yummy - there is absolutely nothing I could have enjoyed more!!! Thank you again and I hope to see you soon!

Bill and Barb and Dick and I want to thank you again for your superb hospitality. We collected our Mini in Wenatchee and made it home to Renton by 6PM with no incidents. It is good to be home, but we certainly enjoyed our Canadian travels and all of the wonderful people that we met, with the two of you at the top of the list.

Should you ever be in Seattle, we would really love seeing you again.

Hi Ed and Yvonne

We finally arrived home on Wednesday after a flight that felt like forty days and forty nights. The return flight always bowls me out. As you will remember from your own flying days Yvonne, it never gets dark on the first leg from Vancouver to London as one flies East all the time. Then there is the long wait in transit - between 9 to 12 hours depending on the airline - before the final leg. When I get back home, my internal clock is completely screwed up and the older I get, the longer it takes to reset itself

Anyway, the trip was worth it and we had a great time.

Johan had to leave for Johannesburg almost immediately after our return. He is doing contract work up there and will have to commute between Cape Town and Johannesburg for some time - until the job is finished. He took some lovely photos at your place, and I'm sure he will forward them to you as soon as he is able to. In the meantime, here is a photo of the 'South African Delegation' taken at Alwyn's house - in the kitchen - in Vancouver.

I miss those fantastic breakfasts and smoothies! The mere thought makes my mouth water. Hmmm ... it was yummie!

Go well and best regards from sunny South Africa.

This is first class service in a french chateau style boutique accommodation. We felt like a princess and prince on a field trip. Perfect hosts provide a very warm and welcome atmosphere and an exquisite (and always changing) breakfast. Wonderfully decorated and spotless rooms, silk linen, chocolate next to the bed, fresh roses, modern bathroom, you name it. We could have chatted for weeks with Ed and Yvonne, they are such a lovely couple. We already missed them when they were hugging us goodbye...

- Ariane and Andres, from Zurich, Switzerland 29 September 2010

What a memorial experience it was staying with Ed and Yvonne. They both greeted us at the door and sat us down with a glass of wine and a wonderful chat. Right off it was like we were their cousins! And the breakfast was terrific. Best of all though were the hosts. They were so welcoming and forth coming . They are the reason we like to stay in B and B's. They told us about the area, their lives and business. So interesting AND the room was so comfortable, quiet and posh. It was everything you hope for in a B and B

Hello Ed & Yvonne: Steve and I wanted to thank you again for our very comfortable and homey stay at The Spare Room. You certainly have a beautiful home and we got the impression that you spared no effort to make the B&B portion just as beautiful. Our drive home was fairly uneventful, although we had to stop in Cranbrook so we could pop in for a bite and watch the last 3 holes of the golf tournament. We hope to see you again! All the best, Anne Wolever & Steve Cauchi.

- Anne Wolever, from Calgary 19 August 2009

We had an amazing 2-night stay at the Spare room. Ed & Yvonne are great hosts and they make delicious full breakfasts. The house is 3-year new and the rooms, furniture & beddings look even much better than the pictures on the web. We will definitely revisit some day.

A touch of class with a European flair! Ideal location - wonderful views. The hosts were warm and inviting, spotlessly clean rooms, crisp linens and delicious breakfasts made our visit to Osyoos a special event. Highest recommendations for The Spare Room as the place to stay!
