perfect winter evening. Upon arrival we were greeted by both Spencer and Jessica for a tour of the cabin and a cold beverage by the fire. The kids had a blast wandering around in the woods and were fast asleep right after dinner. With snow on the trees and the smell of the wood burning stove it couldn’t have been a more relaxing evening. We will be making this a new winter tradition.

Sometimes you just need to kick back and relax, get away from everything. Well this is the place to do it. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute of the serene surroundings. Having no TV was never an issue. Read a book! The hosts are the best thing about it all. They are such super people!

- Catherine, from Brampton, Ontario 8 June 2017

What a peaceful environment filled with beauty, gracious , friendly and helpful hosts. Everything is supplied in abundance. The side garden (stone) is our painted mural of light and colours.

- Jan & Bill, from Blue Mountains 12 September 2016

We loved the space, the quiet, the "rustic" amenities. The chipmunks were a BIG hit - I think they stored enough food in our 4 days for the winter ahead! Abby wanted to bring one home!

We thoroughly enjoyed the company of our wonderful hosts; the beautiful quaint cabin and the fantastic art gallery!

- Fernanda, Geoff, Alex, Jonny & Ace, from Oakville, Ontario, Canada 15 August 2016

Another amazing and relaxing stay! Who knew that a shower outside in the middle of a rainstorm could be so invigorating?!?! It was so good to get away from all of the hustle and bustle and for 3 days just forget that anything else exists. Tom & Dar, you are both so warm & welcoming and we wish the best for you in your upcoming adventures. Please keep in touch.

- Mike, Tina, Lulu&Aussie, from Innisfil, ON 3 July 2016

Dar and Tom are the sweetest hosts and their cozy cabin is the perfect place for a little getaway! Our group of 4 ladies were comfortably at home here and enjoyed all of the nice little touches that were provided - homemade strawberry jam, plenty of fresh fruit, robes, slippers, homemade wine, etc.! Darlene's gallery is stunning and certainly worth a look, she even inspired one of the artists in our group to return to her projects :) I look forward to returning again and showing others how special the Maxwell Cabin B&B really is. Thank you Tom and Darlene for hosting us!

- Kamala, from Brampton, Ontario 5 September 2015

- Nicola & Ryan, from Guelph 16 September 2014

The best part - peaceful! So nice to be in bed and hear the leaves rustling!

- Glenda & Glen, 6 September 2014

Dear Tom & Dar: The initial reason for choosing Maxwell's Cabin was your dog friendly policy. Lulu & Aussie loved exploring every inch of the cabin and are just as sad to leave as we are. You two were the most welcoming & accommodating hosts that we could have asked for and the shooting star that we spotted over the outdoor shower promised of many more great memories to be made here in the future! Much thanks & love!

- Mike, Tina, Lulu & Aussie, from Innisfill, Ontario 5 September 2014

We enjoyed the rustic log cabin with many comforts of modernity, the warm welcome, the muffins, the fresh fruit and a bottle of home made wine, the jam, the fresh washed fruit and all the other warm welcome touches and so much more. A wonderful place to destress!

- Sue & Barry, from Toronto, ON 8 July 2014

Wow! What a piece of heaven! Our stay here was simply amazing. Relaxing and peaceful. Back to the simple things in life that matter. Perfect place and hard to leave! Tom and Dar are wonderful hosts who have a genuine interest in accommodating others. They feel like family already after one visit. Thank you so very much, we will be back. I will be recommending your B$B for sure.Hugs!

- Marissa Murdych, from Milton,Ontario 23 June 2014

We so enjoyed our stay at this charming historic cabin. Every comfort needed along with peace, quiet and relaxation. The perfect place to bring visitors from out of the country to have a rustic Canadian experience I think - maybe someday.

We loved exploring this beautiful part of Ontario, hiking at Eugenia Falls & Nottawasaga Bluffs; visiting the lovely food shops in Flesherton; and restaurants and galleries in Creemore and Thornbury. Also lovely relaxing mornings and evenings here by the woodstove.

Thank you for being dog friendly! It makes our vacation more enjoyable to have our girls with us and Zoe & Daisy had so much fun! Would love to explore more of the property - just a bit too buggy this time.

A true gem of a property. We will recommend it endlessly. Thank you!

- Emily & Rick, from London, Ontario 23 June 2014

Most enjoyable during our stay was the patio, outdoor shower, walking in the bush and the trilliums. The kids liked the tree house, the tire swing and 'strawberry jam'!!

- Helena, Frank & daughters, from Toronto, ON 25 May 2014

What I enjoyed the most about my stay at the cabin is: 1. no dogs like at home to wake me up! 2. tire swing 3. fires 4. tree house and slide 5. cozy beds

- Kelley & Drew (9 yr old son), from Ontario 24 May 2014

We loved the cozy cabin and wonderful hospitality. Would definitely come back! A wonderful treat.

- Julia & Aaron, from Toronto, ON 11 May 2014

We stayed for a few days during the first week of September. Dar and Tom could not be better hosts and the cabin could not be better equipped - from robes and shower shoes to books and wine! It was a very peaceful, relaxing setting. The wood buring fireplace was especially welcome during the first few cool days of Autumn (and it was burning upon our arrivel on such a cold dreary day). Zoe says Woof!

- Barb & John, from Burlington, Ontario 5 November 2013

I enjoyed the outdoor shower, the beds (soooooo comfy) and the privacy and freedom to let the dogs be dogs. I wouldn't change a thing as I loved it just the way it is.

- Linda, from Ontario 23 October 2013

We enjoyed the quiet time for reflection. The incredible view sitting on the couch looking out the patio door windows. The cozy fire and listening to the rain on the metal roof in bed. Our lovely hosts Tom & Dar were so accommodating.

- Charlotte & Bill, from Ontario 22 September 2013

Very peaceful and relaxing - relaxing having a bonfire at night. Host & Hostess couldn't have been more accommodating. Tom helped us unload the vehicle! Hated to leave.

- Anonymous, 31 August 2013

We enjoyed the authentic charm, gracious hospitality, yummy jam, wood fires, wolves? coyotes? howls, forest walks, starry nights, cozy beds, lending library, peace and plenty and time to enjoy it.

- Elizabeth, Stephen & Family, from Toronto, Ontario 26 August 2013

We enjoyed the wood burner, the local wine, the very comfy beds, toy's for the kids, the slide, the chipmunks, the outside shower and the adventure trail.

- Trevor, Martha & family, from Dubai, UAE 13 July 2013

Very hospitable hosts. Such a beautiful, tranquil spot. Took all of life's stresses away. We loved the fire pit and our nightly snack of s'mores! Tom & Dar have thought of everything..... from dish towels to marshmallows! Thanks for making this an unforgettable stay.

- Lisa & Chad, from Hamilton 10 July 2013

The best part of our stay was feeling so welcomed by Tom & Darlene. Their thoughtfulness and attention to detail was above and beyond! From the bathrobes and flip flops to the wine and juice - everything was perfect! We can't wait to come back!

- Dany & Heidi, from Toronto, Ontario 6 November 2012

We enjoyed sitting outside for morning coffee and a fire in the evening peace and quiet - close to everything - nice to be in an old log cabin with history behind it!

- Daryl & Kathleen, from Cobden, Ontario 1 September 2012

We stayed at Maxwell's Cabin for a special 'birthday getaway'. What a fantastic place if you're looking for a quaint private place that's rustic, but that also has all the comforts of your own home! Darlene and Tom were amazing hosts and generally such lovely people. We were looking for a place with a little more privacy than a traditional B&B and this was the perfect spot. I highly recommend Maxwell's Cabin to anyone looking for a respite from busy city (or suburb) life! Thanks Darlene and Tom - we won't forget your generosity!

- Ashley & Adam, from Stouffville, ON 19 July 2012

A beautiful, peaceful and perfect spot. I needed a quiet place to relax and I am so glad that I found Maxwell's Cabin. The cabin is far enough away from the main house to feel secluded but close enough for a single, female guest to feel safe. Darlene & Tom have included many thoughtful little touches, like cozy bathrobes, books and games, lots of outdoor patio/veranda seating and even a treehouse in the shade. It is obvious that a lot of heart and thought has gone into planning the cabin's amenities.

I arrived on a June evening and there was a fire in the wood stove to welcome me. It was such a nice way to start my holiday. The loft bedroom is beautiful, bright and airy. The bed was very comfortable with a cozy duvet and extra quilts. For me, it was all about sleeping, reading and relaxing. It was perfect, and I plan to return again.

- Amber, from Grey County, Ontario 15 July 2012

Maxwell's cabin was the perfect weekend getaway and left us wishing we had planned to stay longer! Tom and Dar were the most gracious hosts and thought of everything supplying us with a lovely selection of breakfast foods and a fully stocked cabin with lots of extra touches. We loved everything from the rustic interior of the cabin, the outdoor shower, the loft bedroom and the cozy wood stove. We definitely plan to return again. We can't stop talking about our stay at your B & B! Thanks a million for everything Tom and Dar...see you soon!

- Scott & Tammy, from Woodstock 17 October 2011

We found the cabin to be a perfect getaway for our honeymoon. From watching an owl fly through the back woods at dusk to enjoying our early morning coffee on the patio. The surrounding area is filled with natures wonders like caves and waterfalls. Nearby Collingwood has plenty for all such as history, arts, spas, and Tim Hortons. The cabin was filled with a charm and history of it's own, complimented by the wonderful artwork of Darlene. Be sure to check out her gallery for some stunning work. Again, a wonderful spot to base our honeymoon, great hospitality and a certain comfort you won't find any where else.

- The Smales, from Ingersoll, Ontario 6 September 2011

We really enjoyed the age and history of this beautiful cabin. We loved how it's nestled in the woods in complete privacy and spent many hours on the back patio eating our meals, drinking coffee and reading in the dappled sunlight. We loved the simplicity and beauty of the decoration and how much care was taken in the amenities provided - from the uber soft sheets, towels and bathrobes, to the continental breakfast provided, the homemade wine and all the hooks in all the right places! There was so much care and thought in every single detail. And we loved Tom! What a lovely man and such a great host! We fell in love with Maxwell's Cabin and hope to return many more times in the years to come. It's perfect. It's a great place to hunker down and read and it's also close to some of the most beautiful spots along the Bruce Trail. What a gem this place is - we loved it!

- Leslie & Aaron, from Toronto 8 August 2011

Greetings, our family just stayed there this past month and it was tremendous. Wonderful hospitality and terrific arrangement for what we were looking for for our family holiday. Close enough to the tourism of Collingwood/Georgian Bay area but yet just far enough away. Would recommend this to anyone for a fabulous stay. Cheers.

- Mickey Dupuis, from St. Thomas Ontario 26 July 2011

My two boys and I were at the Cabin for three nights and we had a wonderful time! We did not want for anything, our hosts provided everything and more. I enjoyed the outdoor shower and my kids liked the outdoor firepit. We headed into Meaford to enjoy the beach one day and went into Collingwood the next - both were close. The cabin was wonderfully rustic and free from distractions. Thanks again!!

- Oksana, from Waterloo, Ontario 24 July 2011

We really enjoyed the laughter we shared with you. You're wonderful hosts. We couldn't of asked for a more private retreat than this! Great anniversary spot and close to home.

- Daniel & Kate, from Shelburne 24 July 2011

What I enjoyed most about your lovely cabin is the peace and quiet and that it is both rustic and modern at the same time. I truely appreciated your kind hospitality. Thank you for sharing your art and your studio with me. I wish I could have stayed longer.

- Laura, 22 May 2011

To be able to escape from your everyday life, only 1/2 and hour from home!!! Who could ask for more!! This is every mom's recharge getaway, every couples rekindle getaway and every families reconnect getaway!! Lost in the woods with still having access to everything!! Thanks for a fabulous refresh!!!!

- H. Whyte, 18 May 2011

We love how the cabin has been decorated, also you have so many conveniences - we could have brought "less stuff" since almost everything is already there.... (electric frying pan, iPod station! Wow!) ...We loved our morning coffee on the patio.... We wouldn't change a thing!

- Duke & Ula, from Etobicoke, Ontario 17 August 2010

Everyone MUST experience Maxwell's Cabin. We spent a few days at the cabin and enjoyed every minute of the serene, peaceful area. The hosts are amazing people and provided every comfort of home down to the very small details (extra comfy footware, food stuff and much more). An unbelievable experience if you want to just relax ! (love the outdoor shower !!) Thanks Dar and Tom

- Michelle, from Timmins ON 8 July 2010

What a wonderful place to slip away from the busyness of life, put a log on the fire, listen to some music, coffee and book in hand. Darlene & Tom, you have created an amazing place to escape from the world, as we know it, and reflect on the realities of life for those who have gone before us, without having to go without some creature comforts that make time away enjoyable!

We hope to return! What a blessing your cabin and hospitality were to us!

- Steve & Janice, from Toronto, Ontario 18 June 2010

Darlene & Tom: Jeff & I wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your amazing property and cabin with us. From the moment we stepped in, we felt welcome and comfortable. The fine detail you put into everything did not go unnoticed, and was greatly appreciated by both of us. There are so many great things to say about your cabin itself, but some of our favorite things were the fireplace, your music selection and your art work throughout the cabin. Our stay far exceeded our expectations and there isn't anything I would change, as you have thought of things we didn't even consider! Jeff and I are so happy to have found you and your cabin and we cannot wait to make this an annual get away!

- Kristin & Jeff, from Ontario 30 October 2009

Everywhere that I can see All is beautiful for one to be: The rain did nothing to spoil the stay I loved each and every day. This is not a B&B; It is a touch of Heaven. A place for the tired and weary to renew their spirit. No TV, No Computer, No 'on call' - One could just BE. One's life is so busy doing; the tyranny of should stalks us. Here one's mind and soul could rest. To ease any physical or emotional unrest. This is the place to BE. Thankyou so very much .. Phil

- Phil, from Ontario 18 October 2009

We had the best family weekend at Maxwell's Cabin last weekend! It was such a great opportunity to reconnect as a family. We made it a technology free weekend, which gave us time to enjoy nature, read some good books, do some drawing, play board games and really talk to one another -- something we don't do enough of in our usual hectic lives. The cabin is just adorable and the setting in the woods is so beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful memory that we will always cherish!

- Hella Glinos, from Mississauga, Ontario 4 October 2009

For the love of art ,romance in a log cabin by a warm cozy fire and letting owr minds create. It dosen't get better than this.We love the art,the ideas and the people able and willing to offer such beutifull settings, Like Tom and Dar.

- Lesley & Kerry, from Port Credit 27 September 2009

The warm welcome, far exceeded our expectations. Impessed with the preparations, a lot of thought went into making it "stand out" from other B&B's.

- Rosemary & Gary, from Toronto, Ontario 13 September 2009

Went there for 2 days and had the most relaxing time! Would

- Paul Lachance, from Amherstburg, Ontario 6 September 2009

The cabin in the woods - a little bit of quiet solitude; rustic, relaxing and though we kept joking about being Ma & Pa Ingalls we had way more ammenities - and good ones!

Certainly a piece of Grey (county) heaven!

- Linda & John Veenstra, from Ontario 3 August 2009

What a FANTASTIC place to get away from the daily stresses. We have stayed at a number of B&Bs and this is certainly one of our favourites. All that history. Stepping back in time, with basic modern conveniences. Very clean. Darlene was away when we stayed, so Tom did double duty and he didn't miss a beat. We didn't want for anything. An exceptional Host. The property is conveniently located to a number of outdoor activities, in our case, hiking the Bruce Trail. We will be back !!!

- Pat & Cliff, from Mississauga 28 July 2009

Marc: It was an amazing stay, very clean and relaxing. What a great escape from the everyday.

Anna (7): It was so neat, and old fashion, I really liked it, and I loved all the time I had to paint.

Mira (10): It was like going back in time. When we had no TVs, and all that other fancy stuff. I didn't want to leave.

- Marc Richter, from Mississauga, Ontario 18 November 2008

We have just come back from the Maxwell Cabin and had a wonderful and very restful stay! When life gets too busy and stressful, we like to get away for a day or two and the Maxwell Cabin was perfect!

It offers so much privacy and a quiet beautiful setting in the trees. We were able to unwind completely.

We sat by the fire and read, went for walks and made our breakfast, which was left for us in the fridge, so we could prepare it, when we felt like it. What a beautiful experience to sleep in the loft under comfortable duvets and with the warmth of the woodfire.

We tried to imagine, how great that must be in the depth of winter with lots of snow outside for cross country skiing.

In the morning we stepped out onto the patio with our coffee to listen to the birds in the trees. There is so much love put into the interior design of the cabin, so much to admire.

We are sending our kids and their families to the Maxwell Cabin for a Fall weekend, as it must be beautiful, when the woods are in full colour.

We want our grand children to get a taste of yesterday. Naturally we will be back too..and hopefully soon!
