The Craig and Gosford Route The building of the Chemin Craig in 1810 and that of the Chemin Gosford in 1843 not only made it possible to establish a stagecoach service between Québec and Boston, which passed through actual region of Lotbinière, L’Amiante and Centre-du-Québec, but also greatly contributed to developing this little-known territory. The settling of American Loyalists, Scots and the Irish marked the history and development of the entire region. Colonial villages, cemeteries, Anglican churches and chapels, schools and houses all bear witness to those who made this route possible and offer visitors a glimpse at what makes it so unique and filled with history.
The Navigator’s TrailTravelled since the time of Jacques Cartier by navigators from near and far, this route rich in history bears witness to the colonial settlements established along the St. Lawrence River. From the shores of Lotbinière to the furthermost bounds of the Côte-du-Sud, this breathtaking itinerary snaking along Route 132 takes you on a journey through magical landscapes where a treasury of sights awaits to be found – watermills, the seigniorial manors of Sainte-Croix de Lotbinière and Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies, ancestral homes, the forts of Lévis. Les chemins historiques Craig et Gosford Construit depuis 1810, le chemin Craig permettait aux diligences de faire le chemin entre Québec et Boston, en passant par les secteurs de l’Amiante et de Lotbinière. Ce territoire, teinté par les influences des Loyalistes américains, des Irlandais et des Écossais, cache de petits bijoux : cimetières, églises, chapelles, écoles, maisons, etc. Des panneaux d’interprétation marquent le chemin et renseignent les visiteurs sur tout un pan de notre histoire!
La route des NavigateursEmpruntée depuis Jacques Cartier par les navigateurs de toute provenance, cette route chargée d’histoire témoigne de l’établissement colonial aux abords du fleuve Saint-Laurent. De la côte de Lotbinière aux confins de la Cote-du-Sud, cet itinéraire incontournable vous offre des points de vue à couper le souffle où se succèdent manoirs, seigneuries et maisons ancestrales.
