The Niagara-on-the-Lake Bed & Breakfast Association
(also known as the BBA) is the pre-eminent organization representing
Bed & Breakfast owners in Niagara-on-the-Lake. At the
present time there are 165 members at your service.
Steeped
in history, our idyllic town is located on the southern shores
of Lake Ontario where the Niagara River ends its journey into
this famous Great Lake. It has become the selected destination
of discriminating travelers from around the world.
Surrounded by countless award-winning vineyards and wineries,
Niagara-on-the-Lake is also home to the world-famous Shaw
Festival Theatre where exhilarating seasonal performances
capture the essence of the world's finest playwrights including
Eugene O'Neill, Oscar Wilde and the theatre's namesake himself,
Bernard Shaw.
To arrive in this magical town, you will likely venture along
the picturesque Niagara Parkway that follows the Niagara River
north from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake on 10 miles
of what Winston Churchill referred to as the "the world's
prettiest drive". The experience will take you on journey
back in time as you enjoy scenic views from the Niagara Escarpment
in Queenston where Sir Isaac Brock fell during the war of
1812 and pass through small villages along the scenic parkway.
Further along, you will make your way by old Fort George just
before arriving in Old Town (village central in Niagara-on-the-Lake).
Your travels to and within Old Town will leave a lasting
impression of pristinely maintained parkland, flower gardens
and elegant period homes, many with lakeside or vineyard vistas.
Unique, upscale shops preserve the echoes of simpler 'times
gone by' providing high-quality keepsakes, while the best
of Niagara's restaurants await you with culinary delicacies
fitting to the ambience of their delightful surroundings.
The
traveler looking for relaxation can enjoy European-style spas
seeking to pamper you deservedly. The active traveler can
enjoy miles of riverside trails fit for biking, roller-blading
or scenic hiking.
An array of outstanding accommodations await you in Niagara-on-the-Lake
including hundreds of Bed & Breakfast lodgings and dozens
of private cottages. Select from homestyle establishments
in quiet neighbourhoods or historic mansions that provide
a royal welcome to their distinguished guests. The most common
sentiment from B&B guests after experiencing the gracious
warmth of Niagara-on-the-Lake's bed and breakfast community
is that they can not return to the impersonal world of commonplace
hotel lodgings.
Reminiscent of their British and European origins, many B&B
operators understand the expectations of their valued guests
and happily provide exemplary advice on fine dining options,
golf locations, theatre arrangements and winery tours.
We
invite you now to enjoy the wealth of information we have
prepared for your trip planning and for your accommodations
in Canada's "historic jewel", Niagara-on-the-Lake.
BBA members must meet or exceed rigorous Association standards
and adhere to a code of conduct. This assures you, our guest,
of a high quality of service and comfortable, clean accommodation
for your stay in our town. All our member homes are inspected
annually to ensure compliance with municipal regulations,
adherence to the provincial fire code and to regional health
standards.
If you are considering staying at a "B&B" for
the first time, we are committed to help make your visit to
Niagara-on-the-Lake the best ever. Here are some points worth
considering:
- You will enjoy personal attention from your B&B hosts;
- You will have an opportunity to stay in a range of beautiful,
comfortable homes from historic to modern;
- B&B hosts are experienced and always ready to accommodate
special requests. Let your host know about your special
needs, be it early check-in or a food ingredient that you
must avoid;
- Your B&B host is your "connection" to the
local area. Ask for tips on restaurants with excellent food
at great prices. Get helpful ideas on tourist events, biking
trails, the less-known local attractions and the best way
to get there;
- You'll make new friends. Enjoy the breakfast conversation
with other guests from around the world and with your knowledgeable
hosts;
- You'll enjoy a delicious, full breakfast that will be
a great start to your day. Don't plan a big lunch when you
stay with our members.
