Veteran travellers recognise that in taking a room at a B & B you haven’t stayed at before, you may be putting yourself at some risk of being disappointed or even upset with the experience; for example, normally you don’t know your host or hostess, you aren’t familiar with the type of lodging provided, and have little or no knowledge of the quality of food or services offered by the host. Veteran travellers also know that in the majority of cases, a stay at a B&B is a fond memory in the making. This is truly the experience my wife and I enjoyed while staying at the Tallwood Manor located in Port Colbourne Ontario. The ambiance of the home is like no other we had experienced prior to our stay; the décor and furnishings are right out of the pages of a magazine, (“English Living” to be exact). Rare antiques fill the home and period ornamentation pieces emanate a sense of luxury and serenity that is rare in the “mass production” mind-set of today’s hurried world. Judith, our hostess, is a very special and gracious person, with the instincts and skills of a gourmet chef. Her attention to both the physical setting and the ambiance of her home is rare, and is intended to afford guests the ultimate in Bed and Breakfast accommodation. She excels at bestowing a breakfast that will impress even the most exacting foodie, while her attentive and caring nature make guests feel comfortable and welcome. My wife and I thank you for both a delightful experience and a fond memory, and wish you the best, knowing that your personality and skills and the home, which you have worked so hard to create and maintain, will be a stunning success. We will be back!

- Rod & Laurene Locke, from Buckhorn Ontario 24 May 2013

We have stayed at Talwood Manor twice already and we are definitely planning to go back. Judith is a wonderful host and we thoroughly enjoyed her hospitality, as well as her company. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and full of charm. The food is also exceptional. If you are planning a trip to Port Colborne, we would like to reccomend Talwood Manor as a #1 place to stay!

- Jelena and Dave, from Brantford 22 May 2013

Praise to Judith of Talwood Manor. Tudor room is well fitted, inviting & comfortable, and breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend. You will be warmly greeted by Joey the tabby cat.

- Ms. Lori, from Windsor, ON 15 October 2012

We stayed with Judith in order to attend a family function and the accommodation was outstanding and first class all the way. The first day we were jet lagged very badly and Judith very graciously fed us breakfast at 1 in the afternoon! Our room was quiet and peaceful, very important to us. Breakfast was always a delight and an epicurean experience. Highly recommend. Nice places to walk to in the morning too.

- Rob and Jean, from Vancouver 20 September 2012

What an amazing place, it was like a piece of heaven!!!!!!!!!! Judy was the best host EVER

- Marie Aubin, from sturgeon falls 17 September 2012

Une belle découverte,de l'ordre de celles qui alimente notre désir de voyager et crée d'agéables souvenirs.

- Bernard et Lyne de Charlevoix, 10 September 2012

We have traveled around the world and have stayed in many B&B so what you are about to read comes with a little knowledge. If you are looking for lodging while in charming Port Colburn or the surrounding area you may be hard pressed to find a B&B that offers as much charm and hospitality as the Talwood Manor offers. The owner Judith is a most gracious and accomodating of hostess.

Our room was immaculate, well decorated and spacious. Judith added many little extras (wine glasses, soda, water, tea, juices, cookies and i'm sure i have missed some) to mske our stay that much more enjoyable.

Judith went out of her way to prepare breakfast to meet everyones wishes, from a meatless breakfast for a guest right down to freshly squeezed blueberry juice.

The Talwood Manor is a MUST if your plans include spending a night or two in the Port Colburn area. Oh yea if you happen to see Fred the gardener be sure to say hi to him

- Fred no not the gardener, from Fredonia New york 20 August 2012

Our first visit to Talwood Manor was in February when we visited Port Colbourne looking for places for our friends and family to stay for our daughter's wedding. We reserved three suites and returned in July for the wedding. On both occasions we were impressed with the attractive accomodation, Judith's friendly charm, and the outstanding breakfasts! An added attraction of Talwood Manor's location is that it is just a short walk to both the Welland Canal and Lake Erie. We highly recommend Talwood as a place to stay and plan to return again. Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality Judith!

- Bob and Debbie Campbell, from Toronto, Canada 5 August 2012

We stayed @ the Talwood Manor this past Saturday night, July 7th 2012. What a wonderful stay. Although we had very little time to enjoy this beautiful home,we were visiting Port Colborne for a surprise Birthday party. Judith was a warm & inviting host. We stayed in the Tudor Room. Beautiful, clean & so comfortable! The King size bed was so comfy. Very quiet, peaceful sleep. Bathroom was huge & private. Nice big claw foot soaker tub & seperate walk in surround glass shower. Nice private nook outside our room to have coffee & tea to ourselves in the morning. ( bonus! as Kelly is not a morning person). Breakfast was excellent. We were given quite a selection to choose from. We would highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast. Clearly a 5 Star... Thank you again Judith! Bruce & Kelly Bond

- Bruce & Kelly Bond, from Sarnia, Ontario Canada 9 July 2012

My brothers and their wives booked Talwood Manor Tudor room as a gift for our 25 wedding anniversary. At first I was very skeptical of going. After reaching Talwood Manor, the stunning exterior of the beautiful house with an extravagant garden blew my mind and gave me a sense of excitment. it is a Great Place, with a warm and friendly atmosphere, A real touch of class, Tudor room is very comforting and The sight of the four poster King-size bed with burgundy-gold canopy and adjustable personal reading lamps is rivaled only by its luxurious comfort: a bed truly fit for a King or Queen! ( true say )the enclosed balcony with table and chairs with lavish 4 piece bathroom with glass shower and soaker tub. Relax in the scented water while reading an exclusive magazine . Judith was an excellent hostess provides luxury and service that exceeds expectations; from the beautiful theme rooms with everything you need to delicious . Judith and her helper worked hard to prepare simply delicious breakfasts. The other staff kept our room and bathroom clean and well stocked. overall!!! great place, an extraordinary experience....THANK YOU!!! Talwood manor for making our 25th Anniversary a very memorable one.

Personally a 10/10 recommendation for Talwood Manor.

- HUMERA/AKBAR..............20May2012, from TORONTO CANADA 28 June 2012

We've have stayed in several B&B over the years and it's usually the little touches that make the difference. That along with the house itself and the amount of effort and passion the owner puts into it. Talwood Manor is all that. From the outside you can't really tell how spacious and amazing the inside is. What a stunning lounge and dinning room. Once upstairs you quickly see how much effort has gone into Talwood. Our group had three room. We stayed in the Tudor, which has a great ing poster bed, the potch sitting room and the amazing bathroom. The upstairs lounge area was great for the group. All the fixings for fair trade coffee, tea, juices... even Dad's cookies. The breakfasts were stunning, really enjoyable meal and we never felt rushed. Judith was a great host and a really nice women. i would recommend staying here. And if, like us, you are on a cycling trip it's nice to know Talwood is cycle friendly...locking the bikesbin thr garage is a nice added touch. Hope to come back soon.

Greetings from Annie,Corrie and Betty

We stayed at Talwood Manor in the Highlander Room on September 17. The room was beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable. The house itself was charming, with marvelous antique furnishings, beautiful woodwork, and lovely seasonal decorations. Breakfast was outstanding; my partner had blueberry french toast with real maple syrup, and I had eggs benedict on a unique savory waffle. Delicious. Judy was a gracious and accomodating hostess. We would highly recommend Talwood Manor, and hope to return!

- Andrea & Gerrie, from Barrie, Ontario 18 September 2011

- Claude Laurin, from Canada 9 September 2011

From the outside Talwood Manor is a large, unpretentious house, with a large garden - but when you step inside you are stepping into another world. This is a beautiful b&b. Elegant and stylish (as said)it is like being in a high class Regency style home of 18/19 century in UK (Bath, possibly). The wow factor is everywhere you look. Judith is a wonderful hostess - so friendly and welcoming. Her breakfast table is so beautifully dressed, the food, expertly cooked, and so tastefully presented (pardon the pun),made breakfast a joy. Her staff, the ones that we met, Helen and Robyn were both lovely and friendly people too, and helped make our stay here so comfortable. My husband and I, son and daughter-in-law, had the Highlander suite and the Tudor suite respectively, sumptious and comfortable with the lovely little touches that individualised the rooms - eg in the Highlander suite on the dresser was a framed print of the Declaration of Arbroath(14th Century Scotland) - amazing. In the Tudor suite were wallhangings that would be typical of the period and a fantastic (and enormous) fourposter bed. Graeme and Lesley just loved that! Out in the upper hallway were provisions for making tea and coffee, and biscuits in a dish. A fridge held water, milk, juices and beer. I could go on and on extolling the virtues of this b&b. I would look nowhere else in Port Colborne if I was planning another visit. Indeed on leaving the town, I went to the Visitors and Information centre and told the staff there just how wonderful a stay we had had at Talwood. So to those of you who may read this review, who may be considering staying in Port Colborne for any reason - I would say to you - look no further than here - and just hope there is room available. First class classy joint.

- Kathleen McGuigan, from Edinburgh Scotland 25 August 2011

We enjoyed our stay here immensly. Judith was an excellent hostess. Judith and her helper worked hard to prepare simply delicious breakfasts. The other staff kept our room and bathroom clean and well stocked. Thanks ladies. Beautiful home and grounds.

This is such a wonderful place to stay. The house is magnificient, the food is super delicious and Judith is such a lovely and hospitable hostess. I highly recommend Talwood as a marvellous Bed and Breakfast experience while you are in Port Colborne. And Judith's eggs benedict are delicioso.........:):) Enjoy your stay, Suzanne

- Suzanne Manvell, from Toronto, Ontario 9 August 2011

Modest from the outside but gorgeous inside with a super-friendly hostess. Very comfortable rooms and beds, a better breakfast than I've had at 5-star hotels. We had the savoury and she produced asparagus omelettes, oven-baked hash browns (get the recipe), a big bowl of fruit, juice, tea, coffee. We would bicycle all the way there again just to stay at this B&B.

- Anonymous, from Burlington, ON 8 August 2011

A real touch of class!! Clean, comfortable with amazing breakfasts as well! 10/10!! Thank you so much for making our stay so wonderful!!

Great Place, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Judith, the owner, was personalable and makes you feel like part of the family. The breakfast was incredible, and the rooms were clean, neat and very accommendating.

- Dan, from Buffalo, NY 30 July 2011

Judith has created a very special atmosphere at Talwood that is extremely inviting, warm and first class. My spouse and I had the pleasure of staying at the Talwood on July 16, 2011 in the Tudor Room. The home and the room were beyond our expectations although we had viewed the website. We highly recommend Talwood Manor and would love to visit again in the future

- Wally and Jan Selihar, from Markdale, Ontario 24 July 2011

- Brigitte Levesque, from Quebec city (Canada) 20 July 2011

My wife and I came to Port Colborne for a visit (because this is where I was raised). We opted for a B&B instead of a hotel/motel and chose the Talwood Manor (which is located kitty corner from my old high school!) It was an absolutely excellent choice. The place, our room, the breakfasts, Judith, everything was outstanding! Both of us actually look forward to finding another occasion to visit Port Colborne...and we will certainly return to the Talwood Manor!...

- Bill & Svet, from Toronto, ON 8 July 2011

We had a wonderful 25th anniversary celebration. The Tudor room was large and very comfortable.Common areas of the house were tastefully decorated with furniture fitting for the style of the house interior. Judy was a warm and friendly host with good information about local restaurants and events. Being located directly across the street from the Showboat Theatre was an added benefit.

- Ed and Nancy Van Gennip, from Scarborough 2 July 2011

- Nickolas Hoffman, from buffalo, New york 30 June 2011

Judith was sn excellent host welcoming us with enthusiasm , we had the tudor room and highlander room both of which were excellent. We thourerly enjoyed breakfast in the splendid dinning room. Judith was also kind enough to let us use her BBQ one evening, enjoying steaks and sausages plus beer and wine in the gazebo in her garden. Also a mention to Joe the cat who welcomed us as well in the morning and on our return everyday. Judith was also very helpful with information before we came to Canada Once again many thanks and our best regards to you.

My husband and I are so pleased to have found Talwood Manor B&B and Judith, its most gracious host. From the well appointed and comfortable themed bedrooms to the delicious gourmet breakfast, served in style in her stunning dining room, Judith has created a place that is both delightful and welcoming. You can relax in the library or sit on the screened in front porch or enjoy the lovely garden.

With her extensive knowledge of the area, Judith was able to direct us and helped to ensure we made the most of our trip. I am looking forward to making Talwood part the reason to go back to Port Colborne again in the near future.

- J & S Robinson, from Toronto, Ontario 24 May 2011

Talwood Manor is the best B&B that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Judith provides luxury and service that exceeds expectations; from the beautiful theme rooms with everything you need to delicious gormet breakfasts. Hot chocolate for the tired traveller, heated toilet seat! even starting up my car and clearing off the snow. What more could anyone possibly want for? I plan to go backto Port Colborne every chance I can get!

- Anonymous, from Barrie, Ontario 21 January 2011

Having grown up in Port Colborne, this is definitely one of the nicest accommodations in the city. We took advantage of the Tudor room over the Christmas season, to which the house was decorated beautifully. Our host provided us with the right amount of attention and then left us alone to enjoy the wonderfully restored house. If you're staying in Port Colborne, check this property out first.

- Chris and Meredith, from Toronto, ON 1 January 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Talwood Manor B&B for 5 nights in September, 2010. It is truly one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed at! Judith was a wonderful host and went way above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay comfortable and memorable. This being our first time to Ontario, she was a tremendous help in planning our daily excursions to see the Niagara region and in deciding which restaurants to go to for dinner. The Highlander room we stayed in was lovely. The breakfasts were amazing: absolutely delicious and very filling! Judith and her friend, Helen, are both very kind and friendly and made us feel so much at home. If we're ever back in the Niagara area again, we'd love to return to the Talwood Manor!

- Mary Pierce, from Lamont, Alberta 10 December 2010

My husband and I booked into Talwood Manor for our 10th Wedding Anniversary, and we could not have chosen a more wonderful place to stay. The house is a beautiful building with spectacular detailing throughout. Judith was a delightful and thoughtful host, and the breakfast - wow! It was superb! Such a wonderful place to stay. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to go to Port Colborne and re-visit Talwood Manor!

- Vonnie & Alfredo, from Toronto 18 October 2010

My girlfriends and I enjoyed 2 wonderful nights at Talwood Manor. It was our 13th annual B&B weekend. Judith was a wonderful hostess. The B&B is beautiful and we felt quite 'at home'. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning, and I was pleased when Judith accommodated a special dietary request on the second morning! Having been in a number of B&B's, Talwood Manor would be ranked one of the nicest we've enjoyed. Thanks Judith, (Helen and Margaret too). Carol, for Mary, Julie and Lynn from Toronto.

- Carol Herd, for Mary, Julie and Lynn too!, from Toronto, Canada 13 September 2010

We arrived at Talwood Manor after a long day of cycling and were warmly greeted by Judith who gladly let us store our bikes in her garage. She then welcomed us into her beautiful house which has been lovingly restored and renovated. She has clearly put her heart and soul into her bed and breakfast and no detail has been overlooked. We stayed in the Highlander suite which, of course, has a Scottish theme. It was spotlessly clean and all the furnishings were beautiful. The new bathroom boasts a granite countertop and a heated toilet seat!

We then relaxed a bit in the library and had a look at the books and CD's Judith has collected. Every item is a conversation piece. We had dinner at the Canalside Restaurant which was recommened by Judith. It's a pub-like place, not fancy, but the food was delicious and the prices very reasonable.

As lovely as our evening was, the piece de resistance was breakfast the next morning. We were served at a beautiful antique dining room table with silverware and a chalice for our orange juice. There was peameal bacon, poached eggs, blueberry frenchtoast and fruit salad with a lemon chiffon sauce. We felt like royalty.

I hope I have a chance to get back to Port Colborne so that I can go back to "The Manor".

- Anonymous, from Sudbury Ontario 20 August 2010

Judith has done a fabulous job restoring this old home, which is right across the street from the Roselawn Performing Arts Centre. Inside, the colours, the wood and the furnishings work together harmoniosly. Each of the four rooms have thier own themes and holds true to them. Judith has put so much thought into the workings of the Inn, that even the shared bathroom has an anti-slamming toilet seat(love that). Judith and her friend Helen pump out an incredible breakfast each morning and each morning a delightful surprise. We won't stay anywhere else while in Port Colborne............. We highly recommend the Talwood.

- Leanne and Michael, from Toronto, Ontario 15 August 2010

We were in town for my boyfriend's sister's wedding - all of us in the wedding party had the pleasure of staying at Talwood. Every room was perfect in it's own unique way, and we all fell in love with them! Judith is a natural host, and an absolute delight. Breakfast was amazing, as was Judith's assistant, Helen. We would most definitely return to Talwood Manor B+B, and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, and restful retreat in the lovely town of Port Colborne.

- Trish, from London, United Kingdom 11 August 2010

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 2 night stay at Talwood Manor. It was a girls weekend away. Judith made it all the more special. Friendly, met some really nice couples that also stayed at the B&B and shared interesting conversations at the breakfast table. Judith is a wonderful cook. I felt like I was in my own home. This was my first experience staying at a B&B and I picked a good one. Thanks Judith.

- J. Christine Holbeck, from Otterville, Ontario, Canada 11 August 2010

We had a wonderful 5 nights at Talwood Manor at the end of July and the experience could not have been more delightful! Judith (and friends) were absolutely gracious, friendly and helpful as we got to know the beautiful Port Colborne area. The breakfasts were fabulous and Judith went out of her way to accommodate my dietary quirks. Our room was so comfortable and elegant - we didn't want to leave. We highly recommend this wonderful B&B and hope to return soon.

- Lynne Cox and Randy Brown, from Nanton, Alberta 5 August 2010

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful B&B. Judith was a gracious, friendly hostess, and took care of our every need. We stayed in the Highlander Room which had a fireplace and was clean, and impeccably decorated. The breakfast in the morning was exquisite, complete with fine china. The eggs benedict was delicious, and Judith even make decaf coffee for me, which was very kind. We would stay again, in Judith's B&B in a heart beat!
